Scott Church
Director of Training and Development
Growing up the oldest son in a large family as I did taught me the value of being both a leader and a peer. With seven siblings, there was a lot of competition for attention as well as a need for order and organization! But it was through this challenging childhood that I developed both the interest and skills to work with people, their challenges and varied personalities.
My family was uncompromising when it came to education so following that path I kept my nose to the grindstone and received graduate scholarships from the University of Georgia and Arizona State University. My enthusiasm for learning and helping remaining, I have had a professional career thus far holding positions from public school teacher to corporate trainer to therapist and finally finding myself in leadership. Today I have the ideal situation of working for Recovery Innovations as Director of Training and Development and also fostering a private practice to help low-income children and their families. I have been able to develop a number of trainings in live, classroom format and as online or webcast trainings. I’ve also been fortunate enough to present these materials at local and national conferences. It has been a great experience working with an agency that not only holds recovery as its core organizational value, but uses education and workshops to support and build a learning culture. I am proud to be part of the recovery journey in mental health care.
Enjoying my experience at ASU and finding the beauty of the desert captivating, I settled with my own family in Phoenix in 1999. My wife is also a teacher and my best friend. We are the proud parents of two daughters and a son as well as our most recent addition, Pixie: mix of Schnauzer and Poodle. When not caught up in parenting, you can find us exercising, discovering new foods and traveling.
